Did I find a bootleg DMG-01? (self.Gameboy) submitted 4 years ago. by killingbuddhas. I found an absolutely 100% mint (except for the lens falling off) DMG-01 at the flea market today. Everything is there and perfect, including the EXT cover and the battery door. The battery contacts have a mirror shine and no trace of corrosion. The original internal code name for the Game Boy was 'Dot Matrix Game', and the initials DMG came to be featured on the final product's model number: 'DMG-01'. Internal reception of the console at Nintendo was initially very poor; the DMG even received the derogatory nickname 'DameGame' from Nintendo employees, with dame (だめ) being Japanese for 'hopeless' or 'lame' in that. The first Game Boy, Model DMG-01 from Nintendo was released in 1989 and was Nintendo's first handheld multi-game system evolving from the Game and Watch handheld electronic games.

This kit contains all parts necessary to replace the miniature electrolytic capacitors in the original Game Boy handheld, model DMG-01.

It is the first handheld console in the Game Boy line, and was created by Gunpei Yokoi and Nintendo Research & Development 1—the same staff who had designed the Game & Watch series as well as several popular games for the Nintendo Entertainment System. The Game Boy was a tremendous success.
